Snowplowing

Snowplowing- Snow removal is done usually after a storm has ended. During extended periods of snow exceptions are made. Brian and his crew work around the clock to assure the roads are clean, sanded and open for safe travel. The Township uses 3 plow units to facilitate the snow removal.

It is against state law (M.S. 160.27) to plow snow onto or across Township roads or any other road.  All garbage containers should be off the road.  If a plow comes through and damages one, the Township WILL NOT be responsible.  Only those mailboxes and fences that were properly located and installed, and were damaged by actual contact with Township equipment, will be repaired at Township expense.

Roadgrading

Grading of the roads is usually done after a soaking rain. Brian and Mel take great pride in grading and compacting the roads to assure a smooth, safe, surface. Silver Creek Township has had many compliments about our gravel roads being the best maintained in the county. The township spreads 15,000 yards of new gravel each year on the roads that need attention to maintain a smooth surface.

-         The maintenance Dept. Also does many other duties through out the year. The weeds on road shoulders are mowed, culverts replaced and maintained, ditches cleaned for proper drainage and the removal of illegal dumping. The brush is kept down to a minimum with the purchase of the Tiger Boom mower. Road projects are overseen by the crew to assure the outside contractors complete their jobs to township standards.

The Township will be using Chloride designated by the Board to cut down on gravel loss and washboard.  Those of you who do not have your road designated for chloride, and would be willing to pay for it, can do so.

We hope that the Township residents that received chloride for their roads are happy with the job that was done.

Road Projects

Completed Road projects in 2005- The Township completed several major road projects in 2005, the paving of 140th St. N.W., 128th St N.W. For a total of 3.3 miles. The grading of 134th St. N.W. of 1.5 miles also. The Township has a very busy plan for 2006 for road construction.
